Prevention Reminders

  • Immunizations help prevent serious illnesses.  Contact our office to ensure your child is up-to-date.  Parents should notify Public Health at (905) 540-5250 each time your child receives an immunization.
  • Cervical screening is recommended every three years for all women between the ages of 21 and 69 who are, or ever have been, sexually active.  Check with your Health Care Provider to see if you are due for a Pap test.
  • If you are female, between 50 and 74 years old, you should be having a mammogram every two years.  Please call the Ontario Breast Screening Program directly at 1 (800) 668-9304 for a location near you, or you can call the Hamilton number directly at (905) 389-0101.
  • If you are between 50 and 74 years old, a simple stool test to rule out Colon Cancer is advised every two years.  Colorectal cancer can be cured when detected early.  As for a Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT) kit from our office.

Groups Happening this Fall:


Women's Self-Esteem Group:

A woman-centred group intended to provide a therapeutic and safe environment for women to share and explore self-esteem issues and understand how self-esteem impacts their lives.  Covers the following topics:

  • Understanding self-esteem and how it is developed
  • Recognizing the impact of societal/systemic messages on women's self-esteem
  • Gaining tools to develop a healthy self-esteem

Starts October 7, 6:00-8:00 pm
Every Tuesday for 8 weeks, until November 25



Anxiety Group

Explore where anxiety comes from, thinking and anxiety, relaxation strategies, how to manage a panic attack, self-esteem, communication skills, emotions and anxiety, sleep, diet, and exercise.

Starts September 11, 6:00-8:00 pm
Every Thursday for 8 weeks until October 30


Starts September 25, 1:30-3:30 pm
Every Thursday for 8 weeks until November 13



SMART Group (Stress Management and Resilience Training)
For patients who have completed the Anxiety Group.  This group will review skills for managing anxiety and will set bi-weekly SMART goals.
* Note - This is a 'drop in' group.  Registration is not required, and patients are not required to attend every session.

Teen Group

This group will discuss topics including peer pressure, school stress, how to handle a panic attack, and relaxation strategies.  Open to 14-19 year olds.

Chronic Pain Management Group

An opportunity to learn new skills and to practice skills that you have already learned to manage your chronic pain.
* Note - this group will be taking place at McMaster Family Practice, located at McMaster Family Practice, 100 Main Street West, 3rd Floor.   Stonechurch patients are welcome to attend!

Starts October 14, 6:00-8:30 pm

Eat Smart for Your Heart

Learn about:

  • Healthy goods to improve your cholesterol and blood pressure
  • Heart healthy cooking and dining out
  • Understanding food labels
  • Planning healthy meals and snacks
  • Make a plan for change

Vitality - 4 Weeks for a Healthier You!

For individuals who:

  • Want a lifestyle approach to help achieve a healthier weight
  • Enjoy learning from and with others
  • Want to learn how to eat well, get active, and improve body image

Topics include nutrition basics, goal setting, meal planning, mindful eating, dealing with challenges and more!

Starts September 8, 9:00-10:00 am
Every Monday for 4 weeks, until September 29



Craving Change

A unique program addressing issues related to emotional eating. 
For individuals who have completed the Vitality Group. 
Provides participants with practicing cognitive-behavioural strategies to create a healthier relationship with food.

Starts October 6, 9:00-10:00 am
Every Monday until October 27 (except Thanksgiving Monday)



Living Well with Diabetes

A review of strategies to improve diabetes management, including:

  • Healthy eating for diabetes
  • How to prevent and treat low blood sugars
  • Monitoring blood sugars
  • Medications for diabetes
  • How to prevent complications
  • How to manage when you are sick

Eating Well with Diabetes & for Diabetes Prevention

For people with diabetes or pre-diabetes who want to learn how to:

  • Plan balanced meals
  • Learn about foods with carbohydrates and how much to have at meals and snacks
